ComTALK International is a dynamic, impacting educational, counselling, advocacy, psychosocial support and referral non-profit community organization. At ComTALK we are committed to assisting persons infected and affected by HIV, all types of abuse and related issues, irrespective of age, gender, sexual orientation, nationality, disability, religion or belief, to respond positively to associated challenges in the midst of weakening family, community and economic structures.
ComTALK was founded in 2000 and formally incorporated as a non-profit organization in July 2011(Incorporation Number C7143(95)
To provide programmes that encourage positive interaction among persons infected and affected with HIV/STIs, resulting in a display of higher standards of self-confidence, maturity, self-care, responsibility and discipline as it relates to their sexuality and general life style.
To become a sustainable NGO that can provide services to its beneficiaries.
To implement programmes that foster the resilience and empowerment of individuals especially women and girls and communities.
Encourage holistic development of all stakeholders of the organization
Assist stakeholders in managing the impact of Stigma and Discrimination
Provide learning opportunities for clients and stakeholders to understand basic facts about HIV/AIDS, SRH, abuse (Gender based violence)
Establish and maintain a Post Test Club for persons infected and affected by HIV/AIDS and STI’s
Promote financial independence through income generating activities, entrepreneurial development and sustainable livelihoods.
Why The Name "ComTALK"
The most critical support mechanism that is needed in any crisis is to have someone LISTEN while the person or client TALK hence the reason ComTALK. It also implies dialogue.
The second part of the name International was chosen because ComTALK is not confined to services in Trinidad and Tobago.
